Out of School Suspension Program (OSS)

Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo currently collaborates with Community Charter School, Buffalo United Charter School, and Enterprise Charter School in facilitating an Out of School Suspension Program.  The program was designed to offer out of school activities to students who have been suspended from school. This program will address the individual strains the student is experiencing, the power of social forces that influence a student to negative behavior, and the need to provide effective services for success in their school setting and outside in their community.  The overall goal of the program will be prepare the youth for their return to the classroom.

Suspended youth will be required to participate in a minimum of 3 hours of structured programming at the Babcock Clubhouse.  The first two hours will be all educational.  Teachers from the various schools will have the opportunity to provide lessons/activities for the youth in the suspension program.  The Education Directors will provide those activities or will create lesson plans based on the information given to them in the referral.  During the final hour of programming, they will participate in one of the programs listed that addresses why they were suspended.

In School Suspension Program (ISS)

Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo currently works with John F. Kennedy Middle School and Buffalo United Charter School to assist in school behavioral issues. The ISS program was designed to offer in-school alternatives to students who are being viewed as possibly having future, suspension/expulsion or insubordination issues. This program addresses the individual strain the student is experiencing, the power of social forces that influence a student to negative behavior, and the need to provide effective services for success in their school setting and outside in their community.  The program is conducted on–site at the school during 8am- 2pm.  Boys & Girls Clubs provides students with tutorial and intervention services to assist the student back into their classroom setting.
