Day of CaringEvery year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo is fortunate enough to participate in United Way of Buffalo and Erie County’s Day of Caring. This year’s Day of Caring took place on August 15th 2007. Volunteers from FedEx Trade Networks, FedEx Shipping, Rich Products and United Way’s Emerging Leaders Program spent the day painting, tiling, building a wooden train and much, much more! With all the work that was done during this day, volunteers helped us save countless hours and dollars that can now go towards much needed programs for our members. Company Community DayMany companies will pick a day convenient for them to come out and volunteer their time to help BGCB remain the positive place for kids. Wal-MartFor the second year, employees from Wal-Mart stores used their green thumbs to get the community garden at our John F. Beecher Clubhouse ready for planting. On June 6, 2007, 15 employees, along with BGCB staff and members, worked diligently to prepare the garden for vegetables and flowers, which they planted later in the day. The garden is maintained and harvested with the support of Community and Club members, who later get to enjoy the “vegetables” of their labor. It is also used for programming during the summer months, where members learn the importance of nutritious vegetables, how to maintain a garden, and the effects of a garden in their community. If your company is interested in having its own community day, please contact Danielle N. Judge Johnson at (716) 825-1016 ext. 221. |
