What is a CASA Volunteer?CASA Volunteers are carefully recruited and screened to participate in intensive an 30 hour training course. They are trained in permanency, family treatment court, and how to interact effectively with judges, law guardians, families, teachers, social service agencies, and health care providers. At the end of the training each volunteer is sworn-in by a family court judge. The CASA volunteer is then appointed to a family to advocate for each individual child placed in foster care. Volunteer recruitment and training is conducted every six months and ongoing support and assistance is provided to the volunteers by the CASA staff. CASA also provides on-going continuing education for all of their volunteers. Become a CASA Volunteer!CASA is currently accepting applications for volunteers. After volunteers are trained, they are appointed by a judge to watch over cases involving children so that the best interest of the child is represented in court. No special experience is required, but volunteers must have a strong commitment to children, objectivity, responsibility and the ability to communicate with different kinds of people. Volunteers must be able to give 20 hours a month. For more information contact Rebecca Rowe at (716) 825-1016 ext.216 or email your questions using our contact form. |
