Description:
Shaquille Drewitt 2011 Youth of the Year Candidate- Babcock Clubhouse
Shaq has participated in various programs such as SMART Moves, Street SMARTS, Career Launch, Money matters, and Job Ready. The younger club members especially enjoy Shaq’s personal hip hop and dance performances. Not only did Shaq complete volunteer work throughout the club and working with other youth, he began coordinating a dance program with students preparing music and dance routines for talent shows. Shaq plans to complete his GED, enroll in college, and work toward a career in music, dance, and the arts.
Shaq talks about his hero and how Boys & Girls Club has helped:
"My hero is my deceased step father Leon Morgan who died when I was 6 years old. He helped me through so many issues I was going through when I was younger and made me who I am today. He inspired to me to dance and started teaching me how when I was three years old. After he died, I felt lost and alone with no one to talk to. That is when I found the Boys & Girls Club. The staff helped me through those years when no one else was there. They helped when I had school problems or just everyday problems. They support my love of dance and gave me a new Laptop Computer to help me learn more about my passion for Music and Dance"
